NEW YORK - A Harlem native is this season's winner of "American Idol." 

Samantha Diaz, 21, who goes by "Just Sam," is also an actress and used to sing in the subway.

Just Sam says she gets her inspiration from her grandmother, who adopted her when she was six years old. 

After she won, she had her grandmother join the celebration on FaceTime.

Just Sam has been in Los Angeles for the past two months during quarantine to tape the show. 

The last few episodes of American Idol were done remotely.
