A longstanding city theater is the latest victim of the economic fallout from the new coronavirus pandemic. Founded in 1990, the Upright Citizen's Brigade (UCB) announced it will be closing down its theater in Hell's Kitchen, and its training center on 8th Avenue.

UCB said in an email to its community that it had been struggling to pay the high rents.

“This is devastating to us, but for some time now, even in a normal, robust economy, we have barely been able to pay the high rents in New York City,”  the email reads.

But the group says it's not leaving the city entirely, and will continue with a pared-down form of the classes.

UCB also says it will offer classes to students who need them at various locations around the city.
