Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has declared victory in Nevada's Democratic Caucuses, firmly establishing himself as the frontrunner in the race for the party's nomination.
At a rally last night in San Antonio, the Vermont Senator declared his victory well before the majority of votes were counted because of how wide his margin of victory was.
Now, after winning the popular vote in Iowa, the New Hampshire Primary, and the Nevada Caucuses, he's looking ahead to the general election.
"We are going to win here in Texas,” Sanders said to the crowd. “We are going to win across the country because the American people are sick and tired of a president who lies all of the time."
Meanwhile, some of Sanders' opponents, most notably Pete Buttigieg, took shots at him.
“We're just a few votes away from Senator Sanders, whom I respect, and whose ideals we share, but who has a very different approach, getting an insurmountable lead,” Buttigieg said on stage after it was clear Sanders had captured Nevada. “I am here to make the case for a politics that invites everyone in instead of saying it's my way or the highway.”
Mayor de Blasio chimed in on Twitter to defend Sanders, emphasizing Sanders' ability to energize a multi-racial coalition of Democrats to win the primary and eventually unseat President Donald Trump.
De Blasio officially endorsed the Vermont Senator on February 14, and even campaigned with Sanders in Nevada.
Joe Biden came in second and Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren followed in the Nevada Caucuses.
The candidates square off next in Saturday's South Carolina Primary.
Former Mayor Mike Bloomberg will not be on the ballot in South Carolina. He's focusing on Super Tuesday next week.
