Faculty members and staff at Barnard College received racist robocalls connected to the death of student Tess Majors, Columbia University officials confirmed on Thursday.
The Columbia officials say the calls came from a white supremacist group, and were received on Barnard faculty and staff landlines.
The university says some Columbia staffers may have also received the robocalls.
The officials say the message's content was "abhorrent and viciously racist" and say they are working with the NYPD to block the number.
Mayor Bill de Blasio denounced the calls, saying, in part, "White supremacists are morally bankrupt and these robocalls in the wake of an unspeakable tragedy are disgusting."
Majors was stabbed to death while walking through Morningside Park on December 11.
A 13-year-old has been charged in the case. A 14-year-old was also questioned and released, and police say they located a third person they were looking for in connection with the case.
