ALBANY, N.Y. - New Yorkers reporting for jury duty will soon have new ways to describe themselves other than male or female.
The state court system plans to add four new categories - transgender, nonbinary, intersex and other.
The choices will be on the demographic survey that's given to all potential jurors.
Those chosen for jury selection will no longer have to check a box for male or female on the questionnaire.
Instead, the survey will ask if the person wants to be addressed as Ms., Mister, or Juror.
There will also be an option to select "other" and write out their preference.
The new forms should be ready to use by January.
