City Councilman Andy King is promising a court fight if the City Council votes tomorrow to kick him out of office following an ethics committee report that found he had abused the power of his office. He held a news conference yesterday outlining his virtues.
"A father, a grandfather and a man who serves Christ. I have the utmost respect for mankind and womankind," King said.
An internal investigation found he abused the power of his office, retaliated against employees who reported his behavior and misused council funds for his own benefit.
The report also alleges King violated conflict of interest rules by allowing his wife to run the office.
King denies the allegations.
"So, there's no way in the fine fabric of my soul that I would engage in any activities that goes out to hurt anyone,” said King. “So, I'm asking my colleagues in City Hall on Monday be fair, be right, assess the truth and if it doesn't look right and it doesn't smell right then make the right decisions. Don't get caught up in anything else. Because one day, it could be you standing on the side of the podium crying for help."
Mayor de Blasio is among those calling for his resignation.
