The streets of midtown were awash in the sights, smells, and sounds of Brazil today for the 35th Annual Brazilian Day Festival.

The event originally began as a way to mark the country's independence.

It's considered one of the largest celebrations of Brazilian culture outside of the South American country.

Attendees told us they won't miss the celebration for anything.

"When we have the celebration like this one here, we feel like a little of Brazil, you know what I mean? It's amazing to be together with our culture," said one woman attending the parade.

"We pray together, we laugh together, we stay together. To me it's my relax timing," said another woman.

The street fair stretches along 6th Avenue from 46th to 56th Streets, and along 46th Street from 5th to 7th Avenue.

Attendees can pick from over 50 food vendors, and browse over 500 merchandise booths.

The festival wraps up at 6 p.m.
