Activists rallied in Manhattan Sunday, calling on the Senate to act on passing gun safety legislation.
Attendees called for lawmakers to pass legislation that would require background checks on all gun sales.
They also wanted a so-called "Red Flag Law" enacted, which would allow state courts to temporarily take guns away from a person who presents a danger to themselves or others.
"As you know, Senate is on recess. However, gun violence does not take a break. So we're actually standing up to our senators, demanding that they take action otherwise we will vote them out," said one person at the rally.
"I don't know how many deaths it's going to take for someone to take action," said another.
"Nobody needs assault weapons unless they're in the military. So we just have to, there are certainly laws you can put in place. They won't solve the whole problem, but it will go a long way," said a third.
The event was organized by Everytown for Gun Safety, which held similar rallies across the country.
