The city continued to celebrate Earth Day Saturday with its annual Car Free Day.

Thirty blocks of Broadway from Union Square to Times Square are car free for six hours Saturday, and people uptown are able to walk along nine blocks of St. Nicholas Avenue from 181st to 190th streets without worrying about cars.

Not only does the initiative help the environment, but kids in attendance got to enjoy a big playground.

"The cars not being here for at least one day is good for the earth, and they should keep on doing this more," said one of the kids at St. Nicholas Avenue.

Dance and fitness classes were held, along with other environmentally friendly activities.

Union Square will be car free until 3 p.m., and St. Nicholas Avenue will be car free until 4 p.m.
