NEW YORK - The recently announced plan to avoid a full L train shutdown was supposed to be painless, but now it appears straphangers could still gut stung.

Multiple reports say a draft copy of the MTA's new plan includes some major service changes, but the agency is disputing those reports.

The new plan calls for L trains to keep running while repairs are done to the Canarsie Tunnel, with service disruptions limited to nights and weekends.

But according to the leaked MTA memo cited by the New York Post and Streetsblog, the new plan would:

  • Make the First and Third Avenue L train stops "exit only" on weekends
  • Cancel improvements to G train service,
  • Cancel new bus service along 14th Street
  • Drop a planned new ferry route

The MTA calls the information in the memo "outdated," although the Post and Streetsblog say it was written within the last week.

The agency went on to say that it is working to provide riders the service they need while keeping the L train running around the clock.
