NEW YORK - Long Island Rail Road service at Penn Station will be affected by Amtrak repairs over the next several months, along with ongoing work on the East Side Access tunnel project.
Starting Monday and lasting through March, commuters are being warned that trains may be canceled, combined, diverted, or leave earlier than usual during the morning and evening rush.
Riders are asked to avoid rush hour whenever possible, and consider using Atlantic Terminal, Hunterspoint, or Long Island City.
At the same time, the MTA is also performing work on it's East Side Access tunnel project.
LIRR service interruptions west of Woodside are expected to last through February 1.
Meanwhile, Governor Andrew Cuomo's L-train repair methods could reportedly come in handy for Amtrak repairs as well.
Last week, the Governor announced a new approach to fixing the L train tunnel that includes stringing cables on tunnel walls.
Amtrak tells the Daily News it's taking a close look at the L-train situation before deciding if it could apply the idea to its own tunnels under the East River.
