Small businesses are getting big support on Staten Island.
The Local Initiatives Support Corporation is launching the Commercial Corridor Challenge.
For the first time, the program will work to revitalize neighborhoods in New York City.
17 Bay Street area businesses will benefit from the 50 thousand dollar grant designated for Staten Island.
Local partners hope the upgrades will attract more customers.
The Corridor Challenge is also set to help stores in Brooklyn and the Bronx.
"With work like this we can help local businesses increase their vibrancy, boost sales, and bring more people to the neighborhood," said Executive Director Sam Marks.
Improvements for Staten Island businesses are estimated to be completed by March 2018.
