LANCASTER, Calif. - The plight of the homeless is just something on young Harrison Pleer’s heart.

“I didn’t really think about it.  I kinda felt it inside of me that Grace Resources needed me," said Harrison Pleer, fifth grader and gala organizer. “They’re living in the cold alleys and on the street, and I just don’t think that’s right.”

It’s not just the winter harshness that’s hard.  Grace Resources, a ministry devoted to meeting the needs of the poor, says five homeless people lost their lives this summer due to the heat.

All this led to an idea for Harrison.

“This is the first time that we’ve had a ten-year-old come to us and say that we want to organize a gala or any sort of fundraising event," says Jeremy Johnson, director of operations of Grace Resources.

But now, Harrison has partnered with Grace Resources and the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds to raise money with the T.A.P. Into Your Heart and #DoGood Gala.

There will be live entertainment, raffles, food and dancing.

Harrison is no stranger to being charitable.  Last year, he took the initiative and collected 254 coats to help ensure the homeless would stay warm during the winter.

“We love Harrison and his family and their commitment to the community and commitment to serve the poor, the impoverished and the homeless of the Antelope Valley," says Johnson.

The T.A.P. Into Your Heart and #DoGood Gala is October 21 at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.  Tickets are $100 per couple or $75 per person.  You can get them at GraceResources.org.
