Reports from City Hall indicate that the city's economy is in pretty good shape, nearly recovering all jobs lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the income gap between rich and the poor is the widest it has ever been.
New York Times reporter Stefanos Chen did some reporting on the issue and joined “News All Day” to share more details.
Chen says that the data shows that the richest New Yorkers make 53 times as much as the poorest. This is the biggest gap since 2006.
Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn are among the top-10 counties in the country with the worst income inequality gap.
Based on his reporting, Chen says that solutions include increasing the minimum wage and training workers for new jobs.
