Last week, the city announced that plans to demolish and rebuild the Fulton Houses and the Chelsea-Elliot Houses in Manhattan would move forward.
Replacing the current buildings will be new high-rise towers for the more than 4,500 residents across both developments. In addition, there will also be about 3,500 new mixed-income apartments added, including roughly 875 new affordable apartments.
The move is a major shift for the New York City Housing Authority, as both developments will be rebuilt by Related Companies and Essence Development and converted to Section 8 housing, with NYCHA retaining ownership over the land.
Miguel Acevedo, president of the Fulton Houses Tenant Association, which represents over 2,000 residents, joined Errol Louis on "Inside City Hall" Monday night to discuss all this and more.
