All 51 City Councilmembers are up for re-election this year due to redistricting.
The New Majority NYC, formerly known as 21 in '21, played a substantial role in the last election cycle, elevating the number of women who serve in the body.
Now, the group is backing several candidates who are committed to advancing female leadership and promoting economic justice.
So far, the group has endorsed 27 candidates, including four who are challenging incumbents.
The vice chair of The New Majority NYC, Teresa Gonzalez, joined Errol Louis on "Inside City Hall" Wednesday night to discuss the cause.
Gonzalez talked about the group's overall strategy after a successful 2021, how they decide on which candidates to endorse and the role of Republicans in the organization.
"It is wonderful to see our members thriving," Gonzalez said. "What we look for are candidates who understand their communities, understand their base."
Louis' wife, Juanita Scarlett, works at the same firm as Gonzalez, and she is also a board member.
