NEW YORK — On New Year’s Day, Eric Adams will be sworn in as mayor, and with him comes an entirely new staff of commissioners. Steven Banks, the current commissioner of the city’s Human Resources Administration and Department of Social Services, will finish his tenure at the end of the month, after serving for eight years.

During his time at City Hall, he has dealt with a skyrocketing rise in homelessness during the ongoing pandemic, and then oversaw a decrease in that rate. Banks has worked with Mayor Bill de Blasio to implement a plan to — by the end of the year — phase out transitional housing located in scattered, private apartments known as cluster sites.

Banks joined NY1 political anchor anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” on Thursday to talk about this and more.
