Rev. Al Sharpton was just nine years old when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his "I have a dream" speech, but King's work has inspired Sharpton ever since. Still, when we look at the state of the country today, it sometimes seems like King's work, and his death, were in vain.
Rev. Sharpton joins In Focus to talk about the great divides in our nation today. He speaks to the violence at the Capitol and how it highlights a racial double standard when it comes to law and justice, as rioters in D.C. were welcomed into the building, some police even took selfies with them, and then allowed them to leave peacefully when just six months ago Black Lives Matter peaceful protestors were tear-gassed to clear the plaza for a photo-op.
He talks about the false equivalency of those shouting Blue Lives Matter, then beating police officers with flagpoles and fire extinguishers. But he also talks about his hope for healing as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris prepare to take over as President and Vice President.
