Brooklyn City Councilmember Rita Joseph, chair of the Education Committee, talked about how the city could be impacted if the Trump administration follows through on its threat to pull federal funding for not complying to eliminate DEI initiatives.

Joseph provided an update on the Head Start program, which is federally funded, saying it does good work to support young people in underserved communities.

She also discussed the ways community schools provide resources to lower income areas and says the city and state will need to make up for the budget loss if federal funding is lost.

Joseph mentioned the recent hearing on arts education and says it’s important to provide access to young people.
