Manhattan City Councilmember Julie Menin says the Council, led by a majority of women, passed a package of legislation addressing childcare, but the current mayoral administration has dropped the ball in terms of carrying it out.

She says there aren’t enough childcare facilities, with some areas being childcare deserts impacting parents’ ability to retain their employment.

Menin says her new bill aims to create a census office, claiming it will impact women for the better as different agencies get their funding based on census numbers, including SNAP and shelters.

She says it’s important to get issues around the census resolved.
