Brooklyn Councilmember Mercedes Narcisse joined "In Focus" to discuss sickle cell disease.

The councilmember is a carrier of the sickle cell trait and has a niece who suffers with the disease herself.

Narcisse explained her sponsored bill and how it will positively impact sickle cell patients. The bill was unanimously passed in the City Council.

The councilmember is also a nurse and shared why she thinks the medical community does not give sickle cell disease as much attention as others.

She also discussed the mental health impact of the disease.
