New York City is a multicultural hub with dozens of museums, hundreds of parks and millions of people. The amount of potential things to see and do can feel overwhelming, but NY1 has you covered with some of the highlights taking place this weekend across the five boroughs.

St. Patrick's Day Parades

  • Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, March 2 at 12:30 p.m.

The first St. Patrick's Day parades in the city step off in Queens and on Staten Island this weekend.

On Saturday, the 50th annual Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade marches along Newport Avenue, turns on Beach 116th Street and continues along Rockaway Beach Boulevard until Beach 100th Street.

The celebration of Irish heritage continues Sunday with the 61st annual Richmond County St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This year, for the first time, the Pride Center of Staten Island will march in the procession under its own banner. The route begins on Forest Avenue and Hart Boulevard, with the festivities continuing along Forest Avenue to Jewett Avenue.

Oscars Watch Party

  • Sunday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Tootles & French, Astoria, Queens
  • Free and open to the public

For New Yorkers looking for somewhere to watch the 97th Academy Awards Sunday, wine bar and restaurant Tootles & French has teamed up with the Astoria Film Festival to host an Oscars watch party.

In addition to food and drinks, organizers say there will be movie-related games, including prizes for those who correctly predict the most award winners.

9/11 Museum First Sundays

  • Sunday, March 2 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum is offering free evening admission on the first Sunday of each month.

The collection features artifacts, media clips and personal stories that tell the in-depth story of 9/11.

Women's History Month Celebration

The Morris-Jumel Mansion — Manhattan's oldest surviving residence, according to its website — is celebrating its 260th anniversary this year.

On Sunday, the mansion in Washington Heights is hosting a celebration of "women of the past, present and future" to kick off Women's History Month. There will be a series of events throughout the day, including a live art experience, mini-concert and a poetry reading.

'The Gates' Augmented Reality Experience

  • Active until March 23
  • Central Park, Manhattan
  • Free and open to the public

It's been 20 years since "The Gates," 16-foot-tall archways draped with orange fabric, were installed in Central Park for 16 days in February 2005.

As part of the anniversary, the Bloomberg Connects app now allows visitors to experience "The Gates" yet again. Read more about it here.

Additionally, The Shed in Hudson Yards is reflecting back on the art project with an exhibit featuring drawings done by Christo, one of the artists behind "The Gates."

A Century of 'The New Yorker'

  • Opened Feb. 22

An exhibit at the New York Public Library is celebrating 100 years of "The New Yorker" magazine.

The display will feature cover art throughout the decades, documents from the publication's founding, historical photographs and rare manuscripts.

NYBG Orchid Show

New Yorkers are invited to experience all things orchid at the New York Botanical Garden's 22nd edition of their annual orchid show.

This year's theme is "Mexican Modernism," with the orchids displayed in "settings inspired by the bold, multicolored designs of architect Luis Barragán."

Silvered Langur Baby at the Bronx Zoo

New Yorkers visiting the Bronx Zoo's JungleWorld exhibit will be able to spot a new inhabitant by its orange-colored coat.

An infant silvered langur monkey has been born, and, over the course of the next three to five months, its orange coat will gradually change to the silvery color sported by adults of the species.

Silvered langurs are listed as a “vulnerable” species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Bryant Park Winter Village

This is the last weekend of the season to experience Bryant Park's Winter Village, which includes an ice skating rink and an indoor lodge with food and drink options.

Also, as of Jan. 10, New Yorkers can reserve tickets to ride bumper cars on ice.

The Rink at Rockefeller Center

Ice skating is open for the season at The Rink at Rockefeller Center. The center's website calls it one of the city's "quintessential winter activities."
