New York City is a multicultural hub with dozens of museums, hundreds of parks and millions of people. The number of potential things to see and do can feel overwhelming, but NY1 has you covered with some of the highlights taking place this weekend across the five boroughs.

Fall for the Arts on Roosevelt Island

  • Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The 19th annual Fall for Arts Festival on Roosevelt Island will feature a day of live painting. Original murals will be created to dot the lawn for the next several weeks before being taken to Island’s Motorgate Gallery for continued display.

There will also be food vendors on site.

 

Magic Mushroom Weekend at the New York Botanic Garden

  • Sept. 14 and 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NYBG's exhibit provides an opportunity for visitors to learn about the world of mushrooms — "from food to fashion, cosmetics to eco-construction, and meditation to mind-altering experiences."

There will be live music, crafts, tours, food vendors and "myriad mushroom artists."

 

Queens Night Market

  • Sept. 14 from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
  • New York Hall of Science at Flushing Meadows Corona Park
  • Free and open to the public

Queens' open-air night market features more than 100 independent vendors selling merchandise, art and food.

There are also small-scale cultural performances, all celebrating the rich cultural diversity and heritage of NYC and Queens.

NYC Pizza Run

  • Sept. 15 at 11 a.m.

The NYC Pizza Run is an annual Brooklyn challenge where participants try to complete a 5K run while stopping to eat two slices of pizza along the route.

 

African American Day Parade

  • Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Parade pre-show at Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd and 125th Street
  • Parade on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd from 111th to 136th streets in Harlem
  • Free and open to the public

The 55th African American Day Parade 2024 celebrates African Americans in government, with state leaders including Attorney General Letitia James, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson marching the route.

This year's theme is “Good Leaders = Good Government…Vote!”
