The city sky was a canvas for thousands of fireworks during the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks show Tuesday night.

More than 60,000 shells were launched from barges stationed along the East River near Midtown during a 25-minute free, public show.

As fireworks lit up the night sky, music played on the Macy's broadcast. There were many hits played during the score, including "The Best" by the late Tina Turner. The show ended with the classic "New York, New York."

Ray Chew, a veteran producer and composer, was the music director for this year's show, which concluded a range of holiday festivities across the city.

Earlier in the day, Joey Chestnut shook off a rain delay and earned his 16th win at Nathan's Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest in Coney Island, downing 62 franks and buns in 10 minutes. Miki Sudo won the women's competition, forcing down 39 1/2 hot dogs and buns to collect her ninth title.
