New York state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie told reporters this afternoon that state budget negotiations are “kind of at a standstill,” and reiterated his frustration with the amount of policy that gets included in the state’s spending plan every year.

2. White House to pull Rep. Elise Stefanik's nomination for U.N. ambassador

3. N.Y. county clerk refuses to file Texas' fine for doctor accused of prescribing abortion pills

A county clerk in New York refused today to file a more than $100,000 judgment from Texas against a doctor accused of prescribing abortion pills to a woman near Dallas, setting up a potential challenge to laws designed to shield abortion providers who serve patients in states with abortion bans.

A Texas judge last month ordered Dr. Margaret Carpenter, who practices north of New York City, to pay the penalty for allegedly breaking that state's law by prescribing abortion medication via telemedicine.

4. Brooklyn state senator pitches 'bold solutions' in mayoral campaign

5. Revisiting a Brooklyn middle school five years after the pandemic hit

The pandemic changed the city’s public school system, and it changed the students who lived through it — academically and socially.

6. How a nonprofit built a hospital in Central Park in a matter of days

In the early days of the COVID pandemic, Dr. Elliott Tenpenny was in New York City, meeting with Mount Sinai Hospital executives to discuss the possibility of building a field hospital in the city.

7. Yankees fans cautiously optimistic about new season

If you look around Scaglione Brothers Bakery and Deli on Morris Park Avenue in the Bronx, you’ll see plenty of family photos celebrating the more than 80-year-old neighborhood staple. There are also items honoring another Bronx tradition: the Yankees.

During the breakfast rush, a steady stream of Bronx Bomber fans chatted and looked forward to the new season, hoping to forget last year's World Series loss to the Dodgers.
