1. Ex-aide to Mayor Eric Adams in plea discussions with federal prosecutors

A former aide to Mayor Eric Adams is discussing a possible plea deal with federal prosecutors following his arrest last month on charges of witness tampering and destroying evidence, court papers show.

Mohamed Bahi, who served as City Hall’s chief liaison to the Muslim community, was arrested last month as part of a sweeping investigation into Adams and his campaign fundraising that led to the mayor’s indictment on corruption charges in September.

2. Car explosion in Queens damages several nearby homes and vehicles

An SUV exploded on 133rd Street in South Ozone Park, Queens this morning, sending parts of the vehicle flying into nearby homes and cars, surveillance video shows. 

Neighbors found vehicle parts in trees and on nearby driveways, but no one was injured. Fire marshalls say the blast came from a malfunctioning pressurized gas cylinder stored in the back of the vehicle.

3. Aaron Boone to return for eighth season as Yankees manager after New York exercises 2025 option

Aaron Boone will return for an eighth season as New York Yankees manager after the team exercised his 2025 option today.

Boone has led the Yankees to a 603-429 record, three AL East titles and one pennant. New York reached the World Series this year for the first time since 2009, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

4. Lawler pledges focus on SALT cap, border security in new term

Republican Rep. Mike Lawler joined "Mornings On 1" today, reflecting on his reelection in a New York district long considered a Democratic stronghold.

Lawler, who received 52.4% of the vote, overcame a strong challenge from Mondaire Jones, who gained 45.6% of the vote, to secure a second term in a district where Democrats outnumber Republicans by nearly 80,000 voters. He attributed his success to high voter turnout in Rockland County.

5. Newly elected congresswoman vows to work across aisle

Congresswoman-elect Laura Gillen promised to be an “independent” representative in Congress who focuses on bipartisanship during an appearance on "Mornings On 1" today, one day after she was declared the winner of New York's 4th Congressional District race.

The Democrat, whose district covers parts of Long Island, secured 50.9% of the vote, defeating Republican incumbent Anthony D’Esposito, who garnered 49.1%.

6. New York City singer recounts her journey to the U.S. and 'The Voice' stage

Ten years ago, songwriter Nini Iris, then a teenager, packed her suitcase in her home country of Georgia and used her savings to fly to the United States. She moved to New York City with nowhere to stay to pursue her singing dreams.

Last year, Iris was featured on "The Voice," choosing to be on Niall Horan's team and making it to the top 12. She spoke with NY1's Victoria Manna about her journey so far.

7. What's closed for Veterans Day in New York City

Monday marks Veterans Day in the United States, a federal holiday honoring military veterans throughout the armed services.
