1. Jury finds Sen. Bob Menendez guilty on all counts at federal corruption trial

New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez was found guilty today on all felony counts at his federal corruption trial, including accepting bribes of gold bars and cash from three New Jersey businessmen and acting as a foreign agent of Egypt and Qatar.

Menendez, previously the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee before stepping down after he was charged, was accused of accepting bribes of cash, gold and a luxury car from three businessmen and acting as a foreign agent for Egypt.

The guilty verdict was quickly met with an avalanche of calls from within his own party for him to resign.

2. New self-driving shuttles make their debut at JFK Airport

Some travelers leaving their cars in the long-term parking lot at John F. Kennedy International Airport today were excited to see a new self-driving shuttle bus roaming the lot.

The autonomous vehicle was one of several transporting travelers from stops around the massive lot to AirTrain terminals at Howard Beach and Lefferts Boulevard as part of a Port Authority pilot program.

3. Astoria residents grapple with power outages as heat wave continues

Power outages left hundreds of Astoria residents without relief from the heat for hours today as Con Edison crews worked to restore service. A Con Edison spokesperson told NY1 that weather and the city’s ongoing heat wave contributed to a cable fault that caused the outages.

As of late this afternoon, Con Edison’s outage map still showed nearly 800 customers in the neighborhood without service.

4. Malliotakis rallies behind Trump running mate pick JD Vance

A day after Ohio Sen. JD Vance secured his spot as former President Donald Trump’s running mate, New York Rep. Nicole Malliotakis lauded him as a “great pick" in an interview on "Mornings On 1."

Malliotakis is currently attending the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin, where Vance was officially selected by delegates to be the party’s nominee for vice president.

5. RNC 2024 latest updates: Trump meets with former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson

The Republican National Convention headed into its second day today in Milwaukee — now with Donald Trump as its official presidential nominee. Trump met with former Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the sidelines of the convention during the day.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, meanwhile, posted photos of him and his wife Karen vacationing in Montana instead of attending the convention.

6. Trump shooting latest updates: Iran threat prompted boosted protection for Trump, Saturday attack apparently unrelated

A threat from Iran prompted the U.S. Secret Service to boost protection around Donald Trump before Saturday's attempted assassination of the former president, though it appears unrelated to the rally attack, according to two U.S. officials.

Upon learning of the threat, the Biden administration reached out to senior officials at the Secret Service to make them aware, the officials said, adding it was shared with the lead agent on Trump's protection detail and the Trump campaign. That prompted the agency to surge resources and assets.
