NEW YORK — A 17-year-old was stabbed outside a Brooklyn school on Friday afternoon, the police department said.
The attack happened around 2:30 p.m. outside 985 Rockaway Avenue in Brownsville. Several schools, including Metropolitan Diploma Plus High School, are at the location.
The Department of Education said the student was attacked at a bus stop outside school grounds, and that the incident was not school-related.
The girl was stabbed multiple times in the torso and the back, according to preliminary information from the NYPD.
The NYPD says it appears the victim, whom the department believes is a student, was arguing with a female suspect, who stabbed the 17-year-old during a fight.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and was expected to survive.
The identity of the attacker is not known, and police did not confirm if she is also a student. There are no arrests at this time.
A DOE spokesperson said the agency is working with the NYPD as police investigate.
This is the third attack near a city school in the past ten days. On Wednesday, two teenagers were stabbed outside Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx. Near that same high school on Sept. 21, someone was stabbed and others were struck by a car.
