It took nearly two years, but police have arrested an 18-year-old man in the shooting death of 14-year-old Aamir Griffin.

Sean Brown was charged with murder in connection with Griffin’s death. Griffin was killed while playing basketball near the Baisley Park Houses in Queens.

Brown was first arrested across the country in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department’s Fugitive Task Force picked up Brown on a New York warrant.

“He was a we kid, not a me kid. He wanted to see everybody thrive, he wanted to see his teammates thrive,” said Ron Naclerio, Griffin’s basketball coach.

Naclerio said police have kept him up to date on the investigation into Griffin’s shooting.

“The Friday that they actually announced they caught the kid, in LA, your know, I thought, you could run far, you could run anywhere but karma ends up getting you what you deserve,” he said.

The arrest of Brown brings a small measure of relief, he said.

In the meantime, Naclerio is working to honor Griffin at the court where he was killed, now that it has been repainted and renovated.

“We’re gonna put up a Cardozo number two jersey, Griffin on the back,” he said

Two, Naclerio said, was Griffin’s favorite number.
