Schools in the state's "yellow zone" could be getting their first round of COVID-19 testing next week.

The Union-Endicott School District has been notified that four of their schools fall into this zone, including the high school.

20 % of the students in each school must be tested by October 23. That's more than 430 tests.

Letters have been mailed out to parents and they do have the option to have their child opt out.

Forms have also been sent to teachers and staff asking for volunteers.

"My biggest concern at this point is that we have to do our best to reach that number by next Friday and we don’t have the machines yet from the state, so we need to have the machines, the lab materials, and our community partner on board," said Superintendent Nicole Wolfe.

The earliest the district could begin testing would be next Tuesday.
