An on-duty Richmond University Medical Center EMT who police say was shot and injured on Staten Island on Wednesday has been released from the hospital.
Richard McMahon left RUMC Thursday afternoon, to cheers from a crowd gathered outside the hospital. The 25-year-old was shot in the shoulder Wednesday evening, according to police.
Police said McMahon responded to a 911 call reporting a disorderly person outside the Funkey Monkey Lounge on Forest Avenue, at the corner of Llewellyn Place, around 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

When McMahon arrived at the scene, he escorted Thomas McCauley, 37, into an ambulance, police said. As the ambulance was traveling down Forest Avenue, McCauley brandished a gun and fired one round, striking McMahon in the shoulder, according to police.
McCauley fled out the back of the ambulance, but a retired NYPD detective and an off-duty sanitation employee took him into custody at the scene soon after, authorities said.
McMahon was transported to RUMC in stable condition, police said.
Police said a .38 caliber revolver was recovered at the scene.
McMahon has nearly five years on the job and was working with a partner who was unharmed, a spokesperson for the medical center said.
Mayor Eric Adams was briefed on the situation, his press secretary said.
