NEW YORK - Police have arrested the driver they say led officers on a chase along the FDR Drive Thursday night that resulted in the injury of two officers and one being placed on modified duty.

Investigators say the driver, identified as Veronica Jagdeo, 23, was taken into custody Friday.

Police say it all began at 96th Street and First Avenue on the Upper East Side when officers pulled over a black BMW for having heavily tinted wndows and detected the smell of marijuana.

That's when they say the car drove onto the FDR Drive.

The car attempted to take the 15th Street exit, but it is closed off.

NY1 is told when police got out of their vehicle the driver backed up and hit an officer pinning him against the police car.

Officers say one officer fired their gun but the car raced away.

The chase continued and the car was later found abandoned at East Houston and FDR Drive.

Surveillance video shows four people running away from the car.

One passenger, identified as Jason Mohammad, 26, was taken into custody on a parole issue after police say they showed up to the hospital with a shoulder injury.

The police officer that was struck was treated at Bellevue Hospital for minor neck and arm injuries.

A second officer was taken to the hospital for observation.

Police say the officer who fired their firearm did so in violation of NYPD guidelines.

He has been placed on modified duty and an investigation is open.
