The crowd rapped, “South Bronx, South, South Bronx” along with hip-hop artist KRS-One as he performed many of his hits.

It was a part of the Crotona Park Jams in the Bronx. The free concerts were held during the month of July, saluting the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

Many other hip-hop legends showed up for the final jam on Thursday as fans gathered to see them rap and spin records on the turntables.

Several hip-hop legends who were around in the 1970s, during the early years of rap, took to the stage, including Busy Bee, DJ Hollywood and members of the Cold Crush Brothers.

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and other elected officials gave the rap pioneers proclamations, including Kool DJ Red Alert and Grandmaster Caz.

Caz hosts the Crotona Park Jams every summer along with the Friends of Crotona Park.

The 50th anniversary of hip-hop is on Aug. 11. The following day, Aug. 12, a day long celebration with several artists is scheduled to be held in front of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx.

That location is now widely considered the birthplace of hip-hop because of a party held there in 1973.
