Here are some suggestions for events and activities happening in the Capital Region and Hudson Valley this weekend, and the weather report to help with planning.

Monster Jam

Get ready to cheer, scream, and be amazed as massive Monster Jam trucks and world champion drivers take over Albany for a weekend packed with high-flying action and jaw-dropping stunts.

Doors open for the Monster Jam experience at noon Saturday and Sunday in the MVP Arena in Albany. There’s also a Pit Party that begins at 10:30 a.m. both days. Fans ages 2 and above are required to have a ticket.

This is where 12,000-pound trucks stand on two wheels and fly through the air in competitions of speed and skill.

Kitten Shower

The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society prepares for a flood of feline babies with its annual Kitten Shower, to be held 12-3 p.m. Saturday at the Lisa Mitzen Animal Care Center in Menands.

Attendees are encouraged to bring much-needed supplies to help MHHS prepare for the arrival of approximately 700 kittens this year. Essential items include kitten food, milk replacer, bottles and nipples, blankets, beds, and heating pads.

While this event is not an adoption opportunity—current kittens in care are too young to go home—there will be plenty of adoptable kittens in the coming weeks.

Shaker Museum groundbreaking ceremony

The Shaker Museum breaks ground on a new permanent home for its collection of Shaker material and “serve as an anchor for Chatham and an economic engine for the Hudson Valley” during a ceremony and celebration set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in Chatham.

Designed by Selldorf Architects, the “project encompasses the renovation of an historic building and the creation of an expansive addition to provide the cultural institution with almost 30,000 square feet of space over four floors.”

Pine Bush Home Show

Meet with trusted professionals in all areas of home improvement, including bathroom renovation, roofing, cleaning services, pest control.

The Pine Bush Home Show is scheduled for 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in the town of Crawford Community Center in Pine Bush.

Hudson Valley Renegades openers

The Hudson Valley Renegades will play the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in a three-game homestand as part of the team’s opening weekend.

The Renegades, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, take on the affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies at 7 p.m. Friday for opening night; 5:05 p.m. Saturday (Golf Night); and 2:05 p.m. Sunday (Pet Appreciation Day) at Heritage Financial Park in Fishkill.

Alfredo Rodriguez Trio

Part of the McCormack Jazz Series, the Alfredo Rodriguez Trio features an unforgettable celebration of Latin rhythms with Alfredo Rodriguez and his trio from 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Springs.

Rodriguez creates an electrifying fusion of Latin, pop, timba, jazz, tango and funk that will transport you straight to the heart of Havana.

Sustainable Saratoga and Skidmore College invite you to the Saratoga Sustainability Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday on Saturday at Skidmore’s Center for the Integrated Sciences – Glotzbach Atrium in Saratoga Springs.

Sunday Jazz Series

Experience the soul of jazz at the Sunday Jazz Series with Petite Fleur taking the stage at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs.

Petite Fleur is a Baltimore-based trio specializing in Jazz Manouche, drawing great inspiration from Django Reinhardt.

From Albany to Appomattox

Mark Bodnar presents From Albany to Appomattox: The Experience of Charles E. Pease from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Albany Rural Cemetery Chapel in Menands.

Bodnar will lead attendees through the life of a young man from Albany. a graduate of Union College, who was at Appomattox for the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia 160 years ago.
