There have been more than 2,000 violations since the Buffalo school bus stop-arm cameras went live with penalties on Oct. 1.

Buffalo Public Schools and BusPatrol launched a school bus stop-arm photo enforcement program to crack down on drivers who unlawfully pass stopped school buses. So far, there have been 2,250 tickets issued.

Officials say the goal is not to penalize — the goal is compliance and keeping everyone safe.

"Every bus driver has to be very alert when they put their stop arm out that there may be someone that does not follow the law," said David Hills, chief operating officer for Buffalo Public Schools. "And that's what we train them ... our students have to be alert. That should not be."

The fine for passing one of these school buses is $250 and will be sent in the mail.
