March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a disease that impacts about 150,000 people each year, including nearly 9,000 New Yorkers, according to the American Cancer Society.

Doctors have also noticed an increase in people under the age of 50 being diagnosed with the disease. Experts say that early detection and treatment are key to survival.

Dr. Andrea Cercek, a gastrointestinal oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, joined “The Rush Hour” Thursday to discuss the signs to look out for and other ways to prevent colorectal cancer.
