NEW YORK—Twenty-four alleged members of the gang Own Every Dollar (O.E.D), a subset of the Trinitarios, have been charged with violent crimes, including murder, robbery and the dealing of drugs, federal and state prosecutors announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

Sixteen alleged O.E.D members were charged in a 42-count federal indictment, which includes various racketeering, narcotics and firearms offenses, including murder and attempted murder, according to Damian Williams, the United States attorney for the southern district of New York said.

Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg said two of those defendants have also been charged by his office, as well as an additional eight defendants, with a total of 90 counts, including criminal enterprise connected to a murder, attempted murder, and a string of violent armed robberies and shootings between the spring of 2021 and the spring of 2022 in Washington Heights, Midtown, the Lower East Side and the Bronx.

"Today we have made New Yorkers safer by taking major violence drivers off the street, but we know we have much more work to do. My Office will continue to combat violent crime in tandem with our law enforcement and community partners so everyone in Manhattan can live safely in their neighborhoods," Bragg said.

The Southern District of New York said in a release that five defendants – Jowenky Nunez Jr., Jerrin Pena, Brian Hernandez, Mayovanex Rodrigues and Iyaury Rodriguez-Rosario – were charged with committing one or more of a total of five murders in the Bronx and Manhattan. Those defendants, and six others, were charged in one or more of a total of 12 attempted murders, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

The maximum terms of imprisonment on the federal indictment vary widely based on which charges the defendants face, but 11 of the defendants charged with conspiracy to commit racketeering face a maximum of life in prison, and four charged with murder in aid of racketeering could even face the death penalty under federal law.

According to court documents and statements mentioned in a release from the Manhattan DA’s office, defendant John Aslan, an alleged O.E.D member, shot and killed Jeffrey Sanchez during a robbery as he walked to his parked car in Manhattan on Sept. 20, 2021. Aslan and Damien Suarez, another alleged O.E.D. member, then robbed the victim’s watch and jewelry as he laid motionless on the sidewalk, Bragg said.

The Manhattan DA's office said the indictment also includes charges in three other non-fatal shootings and 15 armed robberies. The indictment also includes allegations of at least 14 different firearms that were gained and used by the gang, the release said.

Bragg said at the press conference that court documents describe the different roles that these gang members played in planning and executing the robberies of patrons of nightclubs and restaurants, where he said some rented luxury vehicles to use as getaway car and were tasked with acquiring guns, or scouting victims on social media or in person.

"These individuals lived by a brutal code of street violence-where firearms were recklessly pulled out and indiscriminately fired, where innocent lives were disregarded, where families and neighborhoods were traumatized and torn apart," NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said. "Now they will no longer be able to terrorize New Yorkers."
