TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The alleged shooter that opened fire on Florida State University's campus on Thursday will soon face first degree murder charges, Tallahassee police officials said.
Officials said 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner will be charged once he is released from the hospital. The suspect is a Florida State student who is the stepson of a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy.
They said he suffered serious injuries when police intervened during the shooting that left two dead and five others injured.
As for when Ikner could be charged, Tallahassee's police chief says he will need to spend "a significant amount of time" in the hospital because of his injuries.
Police are also looking into a potential motive. They say there does not appear to be any connection between Ikner and any of the victims.
