Two people are in the hospital, and the State Bureau of Investigation is investigating after a deputy shooting in Hoke County early Friday morning.

The sheriff's office went out to a call about a man armed with a gun in Raeford, North Carolina, at about 3:30 a.m.

"Deputies heard yelling and a shot fired. Both subjects were transported to a local hospital," the SBI said in a news release.

The shooting happened on Darby Drive, in a suburban neighborhood just west of Fayetteville.

State officials gave very little information about what happened, but did confirm at least one deputy fired their gun during the incident.
