The Kensington Expressway Project has been put on hold.

A state supreme court has ruled the state Department of Transportation did not perform a thorough environmental review and until the state performs a more detailed study, the project can't begin.

An additional lawsuit alleges the project violates the state's Green Amendment. That suit can move forward.

In a conversation with Spectrum News 1, Leighton Jones from Our City Action Buffalo, which supports the ruling, says he hopes the review will show all of the facts, and he hopes ultimately, the highway will be removed and the neighborhood truly restored and reconnected.

In a statement, the state DOT says it has received the rulings and is evaluating its next steps.
