RIDGE SPRING, S.C. - The U.S. Department of Labor is looking for temporary workers who had their wages stolen after working for Titan Farms in Ridge Spring, South Carolina.
According to the investigation, more than 1,300 workers had a total of $330,000 recovered following H-2A program violations.
An employee of Titan Farms allegedly used the missing funds for campaign contributions in addition to charging the workers a cleaning fee. As a result of these actions, the base pay rate fell below the mandated $11.13 that is required.
At this point, over $200,000 has been repaid to nearly half of the employees.
The U.S. Department of Labor does however need help in locating the other 600 to ensure they are properly compensated.
“We are asking the public to assist us in locating those workers owed wages by Titan Fruit & Vegetable Co., so we can put these hard-earned wages in the pockets of the people who worked for them,” said Wage and Hour Division District Director, Jamie Benefiel. “Deductions from workers’ wages are forbidden unless they are explicitly included in the contract.”
