The Staten Island Ferry has resumed regular service after a morning of delays early Tuesday.

Riders contended with limited service after a "significant" number of crew members called out sick overnight, DOT officials said.

For a brief period, departures took place on the hour from the St. George Terminal and on the half-hour from Whitehall Street Terminal, according to the DOT.

Shortly after 6 a.m., DOT officials said ferries would resume service every 15 to 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, the union representing ferry crews, the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association, denied a sickout took place at all.

In a statement given to NY1 before full ferry service resumed, a spokesperson from the union said a lack of staffing was to blame.

“We are not aware of a sick-out by ferry crew. The issue remains lack of staffing because of recruitment/retention issues for piloted, certified and US Coast Guard certified crew members based on 14 years without a contract that would recruit qualified professional pilots and mariners for the large vessels we operate in the harbor and ocean passage,” the statement reads.

The service disruption, though limited this time, marks the second time in as many months ferry riders have been forced to reckon with limited service.
