CHARLOTTE, N.C. — People living in Mecklenburg County have a chance to speak directly to staff who work with the county’s budget.
- Mecklenburg County invites the public to weigh in on how they should spend the budget for FY 2024
- County staff will hold community workshops across Mecklenburg County until mid-March, and a virtual workshop on March 18
- Commissioners will vote on the budget in June
County Manager, Dena Diorio says at a recent retreat, commissioners identified access to primary health care, housing insecurity, education, environmental stewardship, workforce development, early childhood development and racial equity interwoven across all priorities for the new budget.
She says even though county leaders have identified where funds may be needed most, residents are still invited to share their opinions on the priorities and shed light on other potentially pressing budget items.
“The community budget workshops that we hold is an opportunity for residents to tell us if they think the priorities are what we should be working on, and to give us some more feedback on areas that we should be looking at,” Diorio said. “And to give us some ideas on other things we may need to consider.”
