The Pride Center of Staten Island will be streaming its own St. Patrick's Day Parade for Everyone on March 7th. The LGBT community center has applied to march under its banner in the parade for the years... and been denied because organizers say it was not a sexual-identification parade. A host of lawmakers boycotted it last year. Spectators filled the streets with rainbow flags to show their support for the community center. The Pride Center is now taking matters into their own hands.
"For us to be able to just take it and say 'Let's do it ourselves," has been unfortunately the way that we've had to go,” said Carol Bullock, the executive director of The Pride Center of Staten Island. "If we could have just gone ahead and celebrated with everyone else, it would have been great.”
The Pride Center is asking for local schools and businesses to send in performances that can stream during the virtual parade. Each should tough on tolerance and inclusion. To submit an entry, head to https://www.pridecentersi.org/st-pats-for-everyone. Entries are due Monday.
