STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - An assistant principal at New Dorp High School on Staten Island is under investigation after making a racially charged post on social media.
Deborah Cunningham tweeted, "Privilege is wearing two-hundred dollar sneakers when you’ve never had a job. Privilege is wearing three-hundred dollar Beats headphones while living on public assistance.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio has condemned the language she used.
There is also a petition to have Cunningham removed from her position.
In a statement, the Department of Education said it "stands against racism and schools must be safe and inclusive learning environments. Teachers and staff have a responsibility to uphold those values."
