NEW YORK - The state run coronavirus drive-thru testing facility is now up and running on Staten Island.

The Staten Island coronavirus drive-thru clinic is open daily from 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. on the grounds of the South Beach Psychiatric Center in Ocean Breeze.

Cars lined up within the orange traffic cones, and were instructed to keep their windows rolled up and transmissions turned off.

People were instructed to leave their driver's licenses on their dashboards to identify themselves as state troopers and the National Guard patrolled the grounds. 

Basil Seggos, the Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner, says operations have been running smoothly, and they have space to expand on the South Beach Psychiatric Center's grounds.

"We are at war with this virus, so we are deploying state government as if we are in a war footing to address this problem, and ultimately get ahead of it and inform the public of these risks," Seggos said. "We've been very encouraged by the turnout this far."

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday announced more city-run drive-thru testing sites will open across the boroughs within the week.

The mayor says the city is currently operating a coronavirus drive-thru testing facility at NYC Health + Hospitals Jacobi in The Bronx, NYC Health + Hospitals Coney Island will start testing people Friday, and NYC Health + Hospitals Kings County will start drive-thru testing next week.
