STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The NYPD has increased patrols around the Staten Island Mall after several young girls were attacked by other teenagers.
But some parents want the mall to do more.
Local residents held a demonstration outside the mall Tuesday night.
Parents of the victims say mall security did nothing to help their daughters when they were attacked last month.
Some say racial slurs were yelled at the victims and want the attacks investigated as hate crimes.
Others just want a stronger security presence at the mall.
"They all viciously jumped on top of her. Kicked. Beat her," said one parent.
"And I was there for at least 20 minutes later and still nobody came," said another parent.
"They should’ve notified the public. My daughter would not have been here alone I knew there were groups of teenage girls attacking other teenage girls," added a third parent.
The NYPD caught two of the suspected attackers, but released them to their parents.
Some of the victims believe the attackers were filming the incidents for likes on social media.
In response to the protest a mall spokesperson said, "We take the safety and well-being of our customers and retailers very seriously. It is our highest priority. We continue to meet on a regular basis with NYPD and will implement additional strategies as needed."
