Staten Island residents can now walk or bike the Bayonne Bridge to get to Jersey and vice versa.

The Port Authority officially opened a new bicycle and pedestrian path on the east side of the Bayonne Bridge on Friday.

It is 12-feet-wide and it is a shared space for both cyclists and walkers.

The path runs about a mile and a half long. One point is located at Trantor Place on Staten Island and the other is along John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne.

Officials at the Port Authority said they are also working on a shared path for the Goethals Bridge.

Authorities expect that to open by the end of this year.
