Two cancer survivors from Staten Island are using art to tell their story of healing and recovery and are shining a light on survival.
Debra Santulli-Barone and Dr. Charley Ferrer co-wrote a dramedy based on their experience of fighting and overcoming cancer. Called "Breast Cancer Diaries," the play features, in part, two videos of borough residents who are living with, or have been affected by the disease. Barone and Ferrer also host a monthly talk show on community television, where they offer advice and interview experts on the subject, trying to provide support.
Co-writer Dr. Charley Ferrer says "what I wanted to do was to show people that there is hope, regardless of whether your at the beginning of your journey, in the middle, or 20 years out."
The play is set to debut in October.
