Now The southwest corner of Vanderbilt Avenue and Osgood Avenue is Saxophonist Eric R. Dixon Way.
Dixon was born and raised on Staten Island And went on to play with the iconic Count Basie Orchestra.
His wife, Ilean Dixon, says the tribute is truly an honor.
"He would say what baby are they doing! So he didn't have any, as we say, air about him at all and he was very humble and that's what I loved about him," she said.
Dixon and his wife also owned a tavern called The Meeting Place in New Brighton.
